Shortest Path Problem with Gamma Probability Distribution Arc Length
We propose a dynamic program to find the shortest path in a network having gamma probability distributions as arc lengths. Two operators of sum and comparison need to be adapted for the proposed dynamic program. Convolution approach is used to sum two gamma probability distributions being employed in the dynamic program.

Physical and chemical stochastic processes described by the master equation are investigated. The system-size expansion, called the Ω-expansion, transforms the master equation to the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation. In this paper, we examine the entropy production for both the master equation and the corresponding Fokker-Planck equation. For the master equation, the exact expression of the...
متن کاملIs a Shutdown of the Thermohaline Circulation Irreversible?
The thermohaline circulation (THC) in the North Atlantic plays a vital role in explaining past abrupt climate changes and in maintaining the current climate. Its remarkable nonlinear dynamics, first demonstrated by Stommel, has been supported by various types of climate models. This has led to severe concerns that global warming may shut down the THC irreversibly, with consequent catastrophic c...
متن کاملTransient Probability Functions: A Sample Path Approach
A new approach is used to determine the transient probability functions of Markov processes. This new solution method is a sample path counting approach and uses dual processes and randomization. The approach is illustrated by determining transient probability functions for a three-state Markov process. This approach also provides a way to calculate transient probability functions for Markov pr...
متن کاملLattice Path Combinatorics — Applications to Probability and Statistics
A lattice path P in Z is a path in the d-dimensional integer lattice Z which uses only points of the lattice, that is, it is a sequence (P0, P1, . . . , Pl), where Pi ∈ Z d for all i. The vectors −−→ P0P1, −−→ P1P2, . . . , −−−−→ Pl−1Pl are called the steps of P . The number of steps, l, is called the length of P , and denoted by l(P ). Figure 1 shows a lattice path in Z of length 11. (The hori...
